Confederation Hockey Club Policy
PHYSICAL AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND ABUSE POLICY

Executive Summary

Confederation Hockey Club is committed to providing safe, enjoyable, and educational programs in which its players are treated with respect and dignity.

Confederation Hockey Club has developed a physical and sexual harassment and abuse policy that will be applicable to all persons involved in the Confederation Hockey Club programs.  The policy has been developed as a pro-active response to events that have gained notoriety in the media over the past few years.  The policy does NOT result from incidents or events occurring or have occurred in Confederation Hockey Club’s programs.  The policy is not intended to restrict or prevent reasonable and appropriate interaction between volunteers and players.  Rather, the policy is intended to ensure that such interaction is appropriate.

The policy includes the following:

  1. Appointment of a Review Panel to screen prospective executive members and team officials who want to be involved in Confederation Hockey Club programs;

  2. Suggested guidelines as to what constitutes physical or sexual harassment or abuse;

  3. A procedure to be followed by parents or other persons who wish to report alleged incidents of physical or sexual harassment or abuse involving Confederation Hockey Club executive members or team officials;

  4. Appointment of a Disciplinary Committee to review all disciplinary matters identified in Confederation Hockey Club, including complaints of physical or sexual harassment or abuse;

  5. Suggested disciplinary actions that can be taken by the Disciplinary Committee upon being satisfied that physical or sexual harassment or abuse has occurred; and

  6. Confirmation that strict confidentiality will be maintained during the complaint and investigation procedure involving allegations of physical or sexual harassment or abuse against Confederation Hockey Club executive members or team officials.

As soon as possible after the members of the executive have been determined for the current hockey season, the President of Confederation Hockey Club will appoint the members of the Review Panel and Disciplinary Committee to perform the functions described in this policy.  They can be contacted through the President of Confederation Hockey Club.

This policy will be provided to each executive member and team official involved in Confederation Hockey Club programs.  In addition, the policy will be made available to parents and other interested persons upon request.  Copies of this policy may be obtained from the Registrar or by contacting any other member of the executive.
