Confederation Hockey Club President’s Message
2007-2008

In late May of this year, a new executive was elected and appointed to provide the means for your children to play hockey in Confederation Hockey Club. The new board will be busy familiarizing themselves with new roles and responsibilities as we begin to head towards another season of hockey. It seems like the break between the end of one season and the beginning of another gets shorter all the time,. It goes without saying that some of us continue on with hockey responsibilities through the summer.

This year marks our first year that we are using an online player registration system. While the user interface may not be exactly to the specs we would have liked, the online system will provide enormous relief to some of our volunteers who had to input the very data you enter when you register your players - except that they did this for the whole club (700+ players). Hockey Canada, the owner of the online registration system, will be unveiling many more modules to their system over the next few years.

Before we know it, evaluations will begin in September. For those of you planning summer vacations, we will begin evaluations on Labour Day (Monday) of 2007. Some minor changes can be expected to the evaluation process in 2007-08. These changes will be posted on our website when they become available.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist with evaluations - while some of the volunteer duties require intimate knowledge of hockey (e.g., evaluating skills of players on the ice) others do not (e.g., handing our pinnies). if you can find the time to assist during evaluations, please email us at [email protected]. Evaluation process guidelines can be found on our policy web page - click here.

As Confed is comprised completely of volunteers, you as parents will be asked by your child’s coach or manager to step forward and help out. We will need volunteers for the Confed Christmas Tournament along with minor Hockey Week. The success of our program not only extends to our children playing hockey but also to the parents doing their part. We really appreciate your help.

The Confed website is an informative guide which should be visited by all parents. It provides information on how the club works and upcoming events to look forward to.

If you have any constructive ideas that may help improve our program please let us know. As volunteers, we are always looking at ways to make the experience for your hockey playing children one that they will have fond memories of.

When the games start, go out and cheer on your children ... and remember, have fun.
